A relaxing hiking and cycling holiday, which includes two cultural visits in Värmland’s beautiful countryside.

  • 4 days/5 nights
  • Start Fryksta, finish Sunne
  • Easy to moderate
  • Daily distance: 10-15 kilometers (max 4 hours)
  • Daily distance: 10-18 kilometers

After a good night’s sleep in a hostel, your hike along Lake Fryken begins. Your mobile phone is prepared with a GPS smartphone app, which will help you find the right route, and your backpack is filled with coffee, water and a lunch pack. Let the journey begin!

You hike along paths and gravel roads, along moors, through deep forests and open landscape. From the saddle, you have a nice view of the beautiful countryside. Should you need to cool down, there will be several opportunities to go for a swim in any of the four lakes you will pass. And if you are lucky, you might make a curious fox’s acquaintance – or maybe an elk’s.

Visits to Alma Löv Museum and Selma Lagerlöf’s Mårbacka are interesting breaks on the way.

You will be staying in cottages along the way. In the evenings, enjoy traditional Swedish food as well as the serenity of the long bright summer evenings. At this point, it is nice to just relax, and feel a pleasant weariness spread into the muscles.

In Sunne, you will have a nice stay at Selma Spa, which includes dinner and breakfast buffet as well as access to the spa.

An additional night at Selma Spa, including a visit to Tossebergsklätten and the Moose park in Ekshärad, is optional.

Hike along a part of a pilgrim trail in beautiful open woodland, on nice forest roads as well as gravel roads. On the heights, before you reach Nilsby, Nilsby Bridge appears on the left-hand side with its red arches. The bridge was built in 1997 and received the “Beautiful roads’ award” that same year. After a good night’s sleep, the hike continues to beautiful Hagudden, where you will have the opportunity to go for a nice swim. Today, the hiking is easy and stretches along forest roads as well as gravel roads. At Humletorp, beautifully located at Lake Visten, you can take a wooden fired heated sauna on the shore (optional). Spend one night here in a cottage.

The practical matters

We transfer you from/to Kil’s train station, alternatively transfer from/to Karlstad Airport. We also transfer your luggage door-to-door. The cottages accommodate 2-3 people per room. In each cottage you find food for breakfast and dinner. The dinners will be partly prepared and lunch packs are already made for you. Thermos for coffee or tea will also be available.

You will have access to a GPS smartphone app, which will show you the daily route in detail. There will also be a map in each cottage, showing you the next day’s route.

Check-out from the accommodations is at 10 pm at the latest. Check-in is at 3 pm. We will clean all accommodations as well as change towels and bed linen. If you would like to be environmental friendly and you are fine with using the same towels and bed linen more than once, you will get a 200 SEK discount. We will in that case transfer the used towels and bed linen to the next accommodation

The food

The dinner menus,  typical traditional swedish dishes with a touch of Värmland, vary depending on the access to ecological and locally produced food, which we strive to offer.

When booking your holiday, you will have the opportunity to choose meals from a menu. These meals consist of for example, smoked salmon, elk or herring . The dinners are partly prepared but you have to do some easy cooking, like boiling potatoes and make a salad. We will do everything to keep your effort in the kitchen to an absolute minimum.

The breakfast items are moved from door-to-door. If you run out of something, we will refill it for you. You find prepared lunch packs for next day’s hike in the cottage.

If you are a vegetarian or need any other special diet, please let us know when you book.

Hiking/cycling and equipment

The hiking distance is 10-15 kilometers a day, and the duration is about 4 hours a day. The hiking is easy to moderate and does not have very large differences in altitude.

The terrain is varied and the first day sometime rough, rocky and uneven. The second day is easier, mainly on forest- and grevel roads.

The third day starts with hiking on paths and forest roads for about three hours and ends with nice easy cycling for 10 kilometers. The last day the cycling distance is 18 kilometers mainly on nice grevel roads.

Bring your own backpack and water bottle.

Bring clothes suitable for heat, wetness and cold. You will keep driest with synthetic and woolen materials.

Hiking boots should be waterproof and should fit well – the heal should keep in place, and you should be able to wriggle your toes. Do not forget to use the boots a couple of times before you go on a hike. An abrasion could ruin the entire hiking experience.
